England beat Hungary 3-1 in a World cup warm-up match last night.

England lined up with a 4-1-4-1 formation, with Jamie Carragher playing the midfield holding role, with Michael Owen as the lone front man, supported by Steven Gerrard.

The first half was disappointing, with not much good football being played, and few chances until Gerrard 'won' a penalty five minutes from the interval. Lampard's poor penalty was saved by Kiraly in the Hungary Goal.

The best moments in the first half had come from Beckham crosses, and he proved to be the provider again early in the second half, with two free kicks leading to headed goals. First he crossed from the right for Gerrard to head in to the bottom corner in just the second minute of the half. Four minutes later the captain's superb free kick from the left was headed in by John Terry. Just four more minutes passed before Hungary pulled one back with the bestgoal of the match, a long range strike from Dardai. It was an explosive start to the second half, and completely unexpected after the dull opening to the match.

Midway through the second half England made a double substitution, with Owen and Gerrard being replaced by Crouch, and seventeen year old Theo Walcott, making his England debut.
Crouch was to make the biggest impact of the two, turning and firing home from the edge of the area following good work from Joe Cole.

England showed flashes of the kind of form they'll need if they're to do well in Germany, and will be hoping to build on this performance in their final warm-up match against Jamaica at Old Trafford on Saturday.
