Wayne Rooney looks set to miss England's World Cup group matches.

Rooney's broken metatarsal was scanned yesterday, and doctors say he will need a further scan on June 14th to determine whether he can return to training. This would be just a day before the game against Trinidad and Tobago, and less than a week before the final group game against Sweden.  If Rooney is given the all clear to resume training in three weeks, he'll have ten days to get fit for a potential last 16 match.

England manager Sven Goran Eriksson reacted positively to the news, saying "This is very encouraging news, I'm looking forward to Wayne joining up with the rest of the squad on Sunday. The fact that he is flying out to Germany with us will give everyone a huge lift."
